New State Law requires drivers to slow down or move over when Garbage Truck is operating.

Slow Down to Get Around Law Signed in New York State.


On August 31, 2016, New York State Governor, Andrew Cuomo, Signed a SLOW DOWN TO GET AROUND (SDTGA) LAW for the State of New York.  This makes New York the 12th state to pass such a law.

Effective on November 1, 2016, all drivers are required to slow down or move over when approaching waste and recycling vehicles using their safety lights while collecting trash.  This law puts Garbage trucks in the same category as other hazard vehicles, such as police and fire trucks.
